Sullalbero respects the enviroment. “L’ambiente non è solo spazio.
“The environment is not only a space. It’s relationship. Ecology is not only respect for the space, but awareness and respect for the relationship among humans and between humans and nature”.

Sullalbero respects the tree.

Our anchor systems and hanging devices do not block or reduce the flow of the sap and they are no harm for the health of the trees. Obviously, every human action causes a stress to the tree. Our task is reducing such a stress up to turn it to be insignificant for the tree. For this reason we are scrupulous in the analysis of the tree before starting building operations. Our structures are respectful of the trees that will host them; dimensions and height of the structure have been designed and proportioned in order to be in symbiosis with the vegetation of that precise area.

Sullalbero uses only wood coming from reforestation processes.

The round wood used for the realization of our structures comes from forests whose management is socially beneficial and economically prosperous according to strict environmental, social and economic rules. As nature is our main instrument, we are strongly engaged for the environment, through concrete actions: we plan our buildings in a way they can fully be integrated in the landscape, respecting the ecosystem of the place where there are supposed to be installed.

We use anchor systems and hanging devices to the tree that safeguard its natural growth.

The control of the trees that will host the structure is made by an Agronomist before every construction and pruning operations, if needed, are made by land surveyors specialized thanks to a long lasting experience in pruning. Our commitment is building structures respecting nature and trees. It is an example of respect and civilization, a way of living and working in a more responsible way.

Respect for the environment and therefore the reduction of the environmental impact have become themes that, in the last decades, have touched every human activity in order to let the future generations enjoy the environment around us exactly as previous generations did in the past. Therefore also architecture contributes to such a task through a planning oriented towards the use of material and production processes that are meant to be eco-sustainable and biocompatible.

Eco-Sustainability

It is a process that aims to promote the economic development safeguarding the health of people, of society and of eco-system, without wasting any resource.
Using wood as construction material becomes a natural choice for a sustainable construction.

In fact its general principles are:

  • Using renewable, transpiring materials pleasing to the touch;
  • Reducing energy consumption in all phases of the life cycle of the building: manufacture, transport, building, practice and disposal;
  • The minimization of the impact on the ground, on the water and on the air in all phases of the life cycle of the building, the simplification of removals, replacements or integrations.

Plywood in bio-architecture

Even if plywood is a transformed material in comparison to the original material, it is considerated bio-compatible as its characteristics are ascribable to solid wood. The only incompatibility is represented by the glues used – even in a small quantity – that recently have been replaced by urea-based glues.

The products made of wood in fact fully satisfy the 4 principles of bio-construction:

  • Reducing energy consumption in all phases of the life cycle of the building;
  • Reducing the use of non renewable resources;
  • Minimizing pollution in the environment and any possible damage to health of the inhabitants.

National Institute of Bio-Architecture (INBAR) recognizes:

  • The plywood in construction as a valid product for the manufacturing technique, for the environmental respect and for the eco-compatibility;
  • That the plywood offers characteristics of stronger structural resistance if compared to an identical quantity (mc) of hard wood;
  • That production characteristics of plywood privilege autochthon species with a quick growth;
  • The progressive passing of misgivings about glues and varnishes thanks to the introduction of new products.

A comparison in favor of wood

As summarized in the frame here beside, the wood as a natural, renewable material, easy to transform with low energetic costs, is fully preferable to the other building materials for construction in favor of the environment and energetic saving.
It is well known that the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere that in 1900 was 290 parts per million, is nowadays 360 parts per million, going over the level of risk for the environment.
The increase of Co2 in the atmosphere connected to the various human activities is in fact responsible for 50% of the greenhouse effect. During their growth, the trees release oxygen and absorb high quantity of carbon dioxide. In one cubic meter of plywood there is the same quantity of Co2 of one million of cubic meters of air.

Wood is the only material for construction that absorbs carbon dioxide.

Plywood:

Characteristics
It is an industrial product

  • It has a payload superior of 80% in comparison to the one of normal wood;
  • It is manufactured through several layers and gluing dingle panels artificially desiccated;
  • It is a stable material free of fissures;

Fire resistance
Even if it is a flammable material, plywood has an excellent resistance to fire, it burns in a homogeneous way as it does not present any cracks and creates a protective level that delays the propagation of the flame towards the inside. Its combustion causes a reduction of material but not the worsening of mechanic characteristics.

Ecology
The safeguard of the environment in the last years has been the focus of public attention. The use of plywood is one of the most efficient methods. It is a green, renewable material whose working procedure pollutes the environment in a vey low measure in comparison to many other materials. On the contrary: the use of plywood promotes reforestation, a fundamental aspect for the maintenance of the forest as eco-system and guarantees more oxygen to Earth.

Plywood is a prebuilt construction material whose row material is wood cut in axes of limited width and length, overlapped and connected by high-resistant glues in order to create element in pre-determined shape and dimension.

Plywood is a new way to use an ancient material that is as old as man housing history.

The use of plywood as material and structural element finds more and more attention and trust in the building field and offers alternative and competitive ways in case of buildings with big lights and big dimensions (dimensions are only limited by transport limits) and in case of refurbishment (it is interesting to underline that the most part of the buildings in historic centers has warpage of floors and roofs made of wood)
